The programmable timer is great as is the economy function. I have a very large open plan family, living and kitchen area with high ceilings and this heater keeps the area lovely and warm. We haven't had really cold weather so far this wi. After a long period of researching different heater options I chose the Rinnai Energy saver 559FTN Flued heater. The bedrooms and sun room much less so, but you can feel the difference, it takes the chill of the air. It does not operate if the heater is under capacity for. The 10 x 4.5 area gets nice and cosy very quickly, without the heater being on anything like full power. When the heater is running in lowest position on the thermostat, the Economy Mode does not operate. When protected from direct wind exposure and connected to both power and gas, the water heater offers freeze protection down to -22F (-30C) for indoor models or as cold as -4F (-20C) for outdoor models. I have nothing to compare it against other than electric fires, open fire, or small log burner, that we used previously, We use the Rinnai to heat an area of 10 x 4.5 metres plus a small sun room and kitchen, while leaving the doors open to the hallway and 2 bedrooms and kitchen. A Rinnai tankless water heater features built-in freeze protection.
